In a significant move set to bolster the well-being of young minds, M&G Research announces a landmark partnership with New Forest High School, focusing on a comprehensive mental wellness campaign for its learners. This collaboration underscores a growing recognition of the critical importance of mental health support for high school students in today’s demanding educational landscape.
The adolescent years are a period of immense change and challenge. High school students navigate academic pressures, social complexities, identity formation, and future uncertainties, all of which can take a significant toll on their mental well-being. The statistics are stark showing poor mental health in adolescence can severely impact academic performance, decision-making, and overall health.
The initiative, spearheaded by M&G Research, aims to raise awareness, provide resources, and foster a supportive environment within New Forest High School where mental health is openly discussed and prioritised. While details of specific programs are yet to be fully unveiled, this partnership builds on M&G Research’s existing commitment to mental wellness, having previously collaborated with Mowat Park High School on a similar campaign.
Siboniso Malinga, the campaign lead, shared that, “it has been an honour to have had the opportunity to engage on the importance of mental health with the New Forest High School learners. This initiative will ensure that they are critical in their decision-making and navigating their emotional well-being in relation to their school environment. This is to enhance their school performance, social relationships, and overall health.”
Additionally, the school counsellor, Miss Pillay, highlighted how this partnership came at a time that would be truly beneficial to the learners and the school. As she had no idea that the issues the learners raised would be so severe to their overall health. Expressing words of gratitude.
This sentiment resonates deeply when considering the broader high school population. Untreated mental health issues among students can lead to a range of adverse outcomes, which is including poor academic performance and heightened vulnerability to substance abuse, as another critical aspect.
